2017 could be a rough year According to the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists who moved the doomsday clock 30 seconds closer to midnight on January 26, 2017. This is the closest the clock has been to midnight since the cold war.
The doomsday clock is a warning meant to symbolically show how close the world is to global catastrophe. This move was triggered by the instability of countries with nuclear weapons and the current state of climate issues. Dr. Rachel Bronson, the executive director and publisher of the bulletin announced the clock's move. According to the New York Times, she stated that the 30-second increase was an attention-catching signal that was meant to acknowledge “what a dangerous moment we’re in, and how important it is for people to take note.”
